KS Sturgis

I am a bit of a nomad. I was born in Elizabeth, NJ in the late 1980s. At the age of five, I moved to Pensacola, FL to live with my mother and her side of the family. It was there that I first fell in love with the art of story telling. By the sixth grade, he moved back to his birthplace of Elizabeth, NJ to be closer to his father.

In Eastick, I fell in love with athletics and became a student athlete. My athletic career was cut short after a cracked tibia bone during basketball practice led to an extended recovery. After a long period of deliberation, I enlisted in the United States Navy, where I served four years and ultimately advanced to become an Aviation Ordinanceman. That experience allowed me to serve my country and to become a fully functioning adult.

In 2009, I moved to Houston, Texas where he started his creative journey. I attended the Art Institute of Houston and received a degree in Media Arts and Animation in 2013. Since graduating, I have aggressively pursued my creative side. I have played the keyboards in a band or two, wrote some books, appeared in music videos and performed poetry. A few years ago, I  wrote a script for Mr. Franklin, a feature length movie, which I directed, edited and produced. The film is available on Amazon Prime Video.

I have married my beautiful wife Jacklyn, who has blessed me with twins, Mikah and River.

I am a jack of several trades, but have enough humility to admit that I have not mastered any of them. I grew up in Houston, but had a fascination with traveling at a young age. As a teenager, I traveled to Mexico, where I spent a month as a volunteer in a rural village. The experience awoke a fascination with Latin America, which I still have today.

I attended the University of Texas at Austin, where I finished with a degree in Liberal Arts. After graduating, I moved to Laredo and then San Antonio, where I worked as a newspaper reporter and occasional photographer. After five years in South Texas, I moved to South America, living in Venezuela, Colombia and later Brazil. I covered financial news for Dow Jones Newswires and wrote extensively about the region’s oil industry opening up to foreign investors.

Around 2000, I moved back to the United States and returned to the University of Texas to get a business degree. After graduating in 2002, I returned to Houston and began writing for oil industry publications, including Argus Media, Platts, Hart Energy and KHL Group. About five years ago, I took my career in a new direction and took a position as director of marketing & communications at a local chain of convenience stores. The experience awoke a newfound passion for marketing communications that I aggressively pursue today.

I speak English, Spanish and a bit of Portuguese. Over the last two years, my lifelong love of learning has led me to take classes in guitar and Mandarin Chinese.
